TORKHAM|Afghanistan : Maulvi Abdul Salam Hanafi, adviser  on finance and adminstration to prime minster of Taliban-led government, has promised assistance to Afghan refugees forcibly returning from Pakistan. Speaking at the Torkham Umari Camp, Hanafi said the Islamic Emirate is providing shelter, cash aid, and logistical support to returnees.

The Taliban government claims it will assign temporary housing to those without homes and offer tax exemptions for five years to Afghan traders, along with land in industrial parks. Hanafi also called on Pakistan to avoid damaging the property and assets of Afghan refugees during the expulsion process.

To manage the influx of returnees, the Taliban says it has set up 24-hour services at the Torkham border camp. However, Afghanistan’s struggling economy raises doubts about whether these promises can be fully delivered.

Pakistan’s mass deportation drive has forced hundreds of thousands of Afghans back into their homeland, worsening Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis.
