Tariq Fazal : 80% demands met; secretariat protest ends following salary boost

ISLAMABAD: Government employees at the Federal Secretariat called off their protest on Wednesday after securing a significant concession from the government: a 10% salary increase.

The protest began at 10 am, with employees marching towards the Cabinet Secretariat. Police stopped them from proceeding further, leading the protesters to stage a sit-in at the gate.

The key development came when Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, arrived at the sit-in location. Minister Chaudhry informed the employees that the government had accepted more than 80% of their demands. He specifically highlighted the 10% salary increase, which had been officially announced earlier by the Finance Minister during the national budget presentation.

“The government has accepted 80 percent of your demands,” Chaudhry stated. He assured the employees that negotiations with their organizations would continue, and the remaining issues would be resolved soon.

Satisfied with the government’s response, particularly the salary hike, the protesting employees thanked the government and ended their demonstration.
