PESHAWAR: Hundreds of teachers working in the second shift schools of government schools have not received their salaries for several months.
The teachers were last paid in June 2024.
As per details, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had initiated second shift in more than 200 government schools in 10 districts of the province. Under the initiative, a primary school has been categorized as middle, middle as high, and high school as higher secondary.
The aim of the second shift in schools is to improve the education in these districts.
The teachers said that they are facing severe financial challenges due to non-payment of salaries.
These teachers have demanded the authorities to clear their pending salaries.
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department has started consultation with relevant authorities regarding the increase in salaries and payment of second shift teachers.
According to the department, it has been recommended to increase the salary of second shift teachers from Rs 25,000 to at least Rs 37,000.

On the other hand, the education department has invited proposals to start the second shift in suitable schools in the remaining 26 other districts of the province.
However, timely payment of salaries to already working teachers remains a major challenge for the government.
