Third aid convoy departs for Parachinar today

Another aid convoy departs for Parachinar today

PARACHINAR: An aid convoy carrying essential food, medicine, and other necessities is set to leave for Parachinar, Kurram district headquarters, on Thursday (today). Locals have been protesting since the start of Ramadan, demanding the reopening of roads to and from Kurram.

This is the third aid convoy sent during Ramadan. It will deliver food, fruits, and other supplies to various areas in Parachinar and Lower Kurram. Officials confirmed that the district administration is overseeing the operation.

Commissioner Kohat has ordered strict security arrangements for the convoy. Police have deployed additional forces to ensure a safe passage of the convoy.

Residents welcomed the aid but expressed frustration over prolonged shortages. President of the Trade Union stated that a lack of deliveries has caused severe shortages of vegetables, fruits, and Eid items. He added that the convoy’s arrival would ease citizens’ hardships.

Authorities have assured that more efforts will be made to address supply issues. The situation remains tense as protests continue.

Meanwhile, the Parachinar sit-in against the prolonged closure of roads in the district headquarters Parachinar entered its 26th consecutive day on Thursday.

The protesters were demanding the reopening of roads to and from Kurram, which had been closed for the last 179 days, leaving a population of over 0.5 million without access to essential food items and medical care.

The main road is connecting Parachinar to the rest of the country. The Kharlachi border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan has also been closed for 179 days. The protesters say the sit-in will not end until their demands are met.
