CHARSADDA: The Tehsil Municipal Administration(TMA) department of Charsadda is currently facing the worst administrative crisis, as the lack of coordinated work not only directly affects the daily lives of the citizens but has also caused pollution in the city.
According to sources, the TMA had seven vehicles dedicated to drainage and sanitation, which were used for garbage collection and cleaning work in different areas of the city. However, unfortunately, all these vehicles are currently parked at different places. One vehicle has been parked with mechanics for the last 10 days due to a lack of funds of just Rs. 5,000, which could not even be repaired.
Due to this situation, the sanitation system in the city has been completely paralysed. Piles of garbage have accumulated in the streets, markets, and drains, which are not only causing bad smell and stench but also increasing the risk of various diseases.
Chief Officer TMA, Sheema Nawaz, in an exclusive interview with Pakhtoon Digital, expressed deep concern over the dire situation and said, “We are suffering from a severe shortage of resources. The department neither has funds to repair vehicles, nor is it possible to pay salaries to the staff on time. We have informed the higher authorities about the situation several times, but no one is listening.”
According to Sheema Nawaz, the main reason for the poor financial condition of the department is the delay in the budget and a lack of interest from the provincial government. She appealed to the public and the higher administration to take immediate emergency measures to save the drainage and sanitation system in the area.
The citizens of Charsadda have also expressed their grief and anger over the deteriorating situation. They say that if basic facilities like drainage and sanitation are not restored, they will be forced to protest against TMA and the district administration.
This situation is not only dangerous in terms of citizen health and hygiene, but it has also become a sign of governance failure. There is a need for the higher authorities to take immediate notice, release funds, and bring the department back to function so that the public problems can be resolved.
