Torrential rains and flash floods claim 428 lives in KP

PESHAWAR: As many as 428 people lost their lives and 127 others were injured in the recent torrential rains and flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the torrential rains and flash floods have damaged 2,692 homes across the province, including 623 completely destroyed and 2,069 partially damaged. In addition, 1,040 shops have also been affected.

In response, the provincial government has released Rs. 4 billion to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to aid victims. So far, the following compensation has been disbursed:

Rs. 718 million to the families of 359 deceased persons

Rs. 50 million to 100 injured individuals

Rs. 1,051 million to 2,125 homeowners

Rs. 472.5 million to 945 shop owners

The district of Buner is the hardest hit, with 251 deaths and 44 persons injured in the recent monsoon spell. In addition, 956 homes were damaged and 973 shops were affected in the district.

Other severely affected districts include Swabi, Shangla, Mansehra, Bajaur, Swat, Dera Ismail Khan, and Lower Dir, where compensation is being paid out in accordance with provincial disaster response policy.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has directed all relevant departments to accelerate relief and rehabilitation efforts, affirming the provincial government’s commitment to supporting the affected families during this crisis.
