PESHAWAR: A transgender man was murdered in Charsadda district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). As per police report, an unidentified suspect opened fire on Gurgura, a transgender man, at around 11pm on Wednesday.
According to the first information report FIR, the deceased was identified as Fazal Wahid alias Gurgura, who belonged to village Ijara in Tehsil Tangi. According to the report, the deceased was shot in the back and strangled with a noose around his neck.
The incident took place at Faisal Plaza on Tangi Road, where the police have registered a case under Section 302 against the unidentified suspect.
A local News website TNN citing his brother Munsif reported that he received information from the Charsadda District Headquarters Hospital at 3 pm that his trans brother body was in the hospital morgue. “When I reached the hospital, I saw that my brother had been shot dead, with a noose around his neck,” Munsif said. “After the post-mortem, we shifted the body to our village and buried it today, Thursday, at 2 pm.”
He further said that the deceased was 23 years old and had been residing in Charsadda for the past 7 years. After the incident, the police raided various places, but no arrests have been made yet. According to police sources, a mobile phone has been recovered from the scene of the incident, through which the chances of reaching the accused have increased.
The Killing of Gurgura triggered Fear in Trans Community
After the incident, the transgender community living in Charsadda is in great fear. According to the transgender organization Trans Action Alliance, more than 145 transgender people have been killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the last 9 years, but these incidents are not stopping as the killers have not been punished.
Muskan, the president of the transgender community in Charsadda, told media that he saw the body of the deceased lying on the ground with his own eyes, after which he immediately informed the police. According to Muskan, “This is not the first incident, but it is unfortunate that no effective steps are being taken for our protection. We are forced to live in fear.”
