Pakistan has secured major diplomatic positions at the United Nations Security Council for 2025. The country will serve as co-chair of the influential Counter-Terrorism Committee alongside Algeria, which will chair the committee.

In a significant development, Pakistan was also appointed chair of the Security Council’s Taliban Sanctions Committee. This body oversees critical measures including asset freezes, travel bans, and arms embargoes against Taliban-linked individuals and groups.

Additionally, Pakistan will co-chair the UN’s Informal Working Group on Sanctions, tasked with reviewing and improving how UN sanctions are designed and implemented.
