US President Donald Trump has dismissed Elon Musk’s announcement of a new “America Party” as “ridiculous and unnecessary.”
Speaking to reporters in New Jersey, Trump criticized the idea of forming a third party, stating, “I think starting a third party is a ridiculous idea, it will only add to the confusion.” He added that while Musk could proceed, he viewed the effort as wasteful.
Musk, the industrialist and owner of X (formerly Twitter), recently announced the formation of the America Party. In a post on his platform, he declared the party was created “to give you back your freedom.”
The announcement highlights a shift in the relationship between the two men. Musk was once considered a Trump ally, even serving briefly as head of a government advisory council (the Department of Government Efficiency) during Trump’s presidency. However, Musk later resigned, and their relationship has reportedly become strained over
time.
