The United States (US) President Donald Trump has announced an additional 25 per cent import tariff on India. After the recent move, the total US tariff rate on India has reached 50 per cent.
Indian media has termed this development as a major setback for India’s export economy.
According to Indian media reports, the new tariff will especially affect steel, textiles, and electronics products, whose exports are an important part of India’s economy.
Indian trade experts say that this move could further worsen the trade balance between the two countries.
Indian politics also reacted to this issue.
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi criticised the government and said that Narendra Modi is not in a position to respond to US President Trump.
He added that India’s global reputation is being affected, and the government needs to adopt an effective diplomatic strategy in this regard.
