Trump targets Elon Musk with deportation threat

Trump Threatens Musk With Deportation as Feud Escalates Over Subsidy Cuts

U.S. President Donald Trump has reignited his feud with Elon Musk, threatening to review the billionaire’s immigration status and cut federal subsidies to his companies after Musk criticized Trump’s tax and budget bill.

Speaking to reporters on July 1, Trump suggested deporting Musk to his native South Africa, joking, “We might have to put DOGE on Elon,” referencing a meme-inspired jab. The remarks came hours after Trump floated auditing billions in government contracts awarded to Musk’s firms, including Tesla and SpaceX.

The dispute stems from Musk’s opposition to Trump’s new tax bill, which eliminates electric vehicle (EV) subsidies—a key benefit for Tesla. Musk, who previously supported Trump’s re-election, called the bill a “disgusting abomination” and vowed to fund primary challenges against lawmakers backing it. He also proposed forming a new political party, decrying the “Porky Pig Party” dominance in Washington.

Trump fired back, claiming Musk receives “more subsidies than any human in history” and hinting at punitive measures. The clash has alarmed Republicans, who fear Musk’s influence could hurt their 2026 midterm prospects.
