Trump to India: 50% tariffs coming over russian oil, your economy is ‘dead’

Trump

The White House announced new economic measures targeting India for its continued imports of Russian oil, calling it a threat to U.S. national security. Starting next month, key Indian exports—including textiles, gems, auto parts, and seafood—could face 50% tariffs, a move that may slash India’s U.S.-bound trade by half.

Trump had called India as a “dead economy” while expressing disappointment with New Delhi’s posturing to continue buying cheap oil from Russia.

“I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together,” Trump had reportedly said.

New Delhi rejected the tariffs as “unjustified,” noting the U.S. initially encouraged alternative energy buys after Europe diverted supplies.
