ANKARA: The Turkish government has imposed restrictions on access to several major social media platforms across the country.
According to NetBlocks, a global internet monitoring organization, the Ankara government has restricted access to social media platforms including X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and WhatsApp.
The government restrictions come in response to ongoing protests led by the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP).
The CHP called for public demonstrations after police erected barricades around their headquarters in Istanbul, triggering unrest and a widespread demand for rallies.
According to Reuters report, the access issues began around 8:45 PM on Sunday, when bandwidth to these platforms was deliberately throttled, severely affecting users’ ability to connect.
