Two dead, child injured as tourist vehicle falls into ravine near Kaghan

MANSEHRA: A vehicle carrying tourists plunged into a deep ravine, resulting in the deaths of two persons and injuring a child near the Kaghan Lari area on Tuesday.

According to initial reports from Rescue 1122 Mansehra, the ill-fated vehicle was carrying a family of tourists when it lost control and fell into a deep ravine. The vehicle is believed to have skidded off the narrow road, possibly due to over-speeding or a sudden brake failure, though the exact cause is still under investigation.

The Rescue 1122 control room received an emergency call, after which an ambulance and a trained medical team were immediately dispatched to the accident site. Upon arrival, the rescue team found the vehicle severely damaged at the bottom of the ravine. Two adult passengers were pronounced dead at the scene due to critical injuries sustained in the fall.

A child, who was also in the vehicle, miraculously survived but suffered moderate injuries. Rescue personnel administered first aid on-site before shifting the injured child and the deceased individuals to Kaghan Hospital for further medical attention and legal formalities.

A spokesperson for Rescue 1122 Mansehra confirmed the incident and praised the prompt response of their team. “As soon as we received the information, our ambulance reached the location despite the difficult terrain. The victims were retrieved with care and immediately transported to the hospital,” the spokesperson said.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been officially released, as authorities are working to notify the victims’ families. Hospital officials have confirmed that the injured child is in stable condition and receiving treatment.

Local authorities and police have launched an inquiry into the incident. Preliminary assessments suggest that the winding roads and sharp turns of the region, combined with the increasing influx of tourists, are contributing factors to the rising number of road accidents in the area.

Every year, hundreds of tourists travel to Kaghan and the surrounding valleys to enjoy the natural beauty and cool weather. However, the increasing traffic on poorly maintained and narrow roads has raised concerns among safety experts and local officials.

This latest incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for driver education, and regular maintenance of high-risk routes in tourist-heavy areas. Residents and tourists alike are being urged to exercise extreme caution while traveling through the region, especially during the monsoon season when road conditions can deteriorate rapidly.
