Two more polio cases surfaces in KP

LAKKI MARWAT: A 28-month-old boy in Bannu and a 26-month-old girl in Lakki Marwat were infected with the polio virus on Wednesday.

 

The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Control at the National Institute of Health, Islamabad, has confirmed two polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Official sources said that a 28-month-old boy in Union Council Sintangah of Bannu district and a 26-month-old girl in Union Council Bukhmal Ahmadzai of Lakki Marwat have been confirmed with polio virus infection.Thus, the number of polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year has reached 05, including two from Bannu and one each from Lakki Marwat, Torghar and Dera Ismail Khan. This year, the total number of polio cases across the country has now reached 10, including 05 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 04 from Sindh and one case from Punjab. Last year, 74 polio cases were reported across the country, including 27 from Balochistan, 23 from Sindh, 22 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one polio case each from Punjab and the federal capital Islamabad.
