Two terrorists killed in gun battle with Bannu police

Two terrorists were killed and three others injured in a gun battle with the Bannu police. A police constable also suffered injuries in the firing.

A statement issued by the office of regional police officer, Bannu, Sajjad Khan, on Wednesday, said while taking action on the information about the presence of terrorists, Bannu police immediately responded and killed two terrorists and three others were injured. It said the police conducted the raid in the jurisdiction of the Police Station Miryan. A police officer was also injured during the exchange of fire.

According to the statement, a report was received on Wednesday morning regarding the presence of terrorists in the jurisdiction of Police Station Miryan.

It said on the instructions of Regional Police Officer Bannu Region Sajjad Khan, a heavy contingent of police under the leadership of District Police Officer Bannu, Saleem Abbas Kalachi — including the Rapid Response Force (RRF), Quick Response Force (QRF), Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Pakistan Army, and other special teams — was immediately dispatched to the site.

Upon arrival, a heavy exchange of fire took place between the police personnel and the terrorists, resulting in the killing of two terrorists on the spot, while 2 to 3 others were injured. During the gunfire, the remaining terrorists used school children as human shields and managed to flee the scene.

One police officer, Mohsin Khan, was injured in the exchange of fire and was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment. His condition is now out of danger.

The police statement adds that upon receiving the report, DIG Bannu Sajjad Khan immediately arrived at the scene and took part in the operation.

Under the leadership of DIG and DPO Bannu, the area was cordoned off, and a door-to-door search operation was launched to apprehend the fleeing terrorists and ensure the safety of citizens’ lives and property.

SP CTD Fazal Wahid, SP Rural Mehmood Nawaz, and personnel of the Pakistan Army also participated in the operation.

On this occasion, DIG Bannu Sajjad Khan stated: “Bannu Police is always alert and fully capable of responding to any terrorist threat. The bravery, professionalism, and timely action of Bannu Police personnel averted a major tragedy. Bannu Police is determined to eradicate the menace of terrorism.”

He prayed for the quick recovery of the injured officer and appealed to citizens to immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or control room so that terrorist elements can be eliminated.
