Pakistani citizens applying for US visas have received welcome relief: they will be exempt from a new requirement to pay hefty security bonds imposed on applicants from certain other countries.
This positive development comes as part of significant reforms to the US visa application process announced by the Trump administration, affecting applicants worldwide. Starting August 20, citizens of specific nations (which do not include Pakistan) will need to submit a security bond ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 to ensure they leave the US after their visit.
However, all visa applicants, including those from Pakistan, must now adhere to stricter requirements:
1. Complete and Accurate Documentation: All necessary paperwork must be submitted fully and correctly.
2. Mandatory Social Media Details: Applicants must provide information about their social media accounts.
3. Social Media Accessibility: While privacy settings are allowed, officials warn that activated privacy might lead to application rejection. Applicants are strongly advised to make their profiles public to facilitate verification by US immigration authorities.
The US “Golden Visa” program (EB-5) remains an option, offering a path to citizenship for those investing $2 million.
The reforms occur amidst improving US-Pakistan investment relations, potentially opening future opportunities for Pakistani investors.
