US delegation visits NDMA, agrees to enhance Pak-US cooperation during natural disasters

US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker, led by US Central Command and Disaster Response Group, visited the National Emergency Operations Centre of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). US Department of State Disaster Expert for Asia, Ivana Vuko and her team also attended the meeting.

The 2-day consultative meeting discussed measures to combat natural disasters and the negative impacts of climate change. NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik briefed the delegation on the organisation’s capabilities, early warning system and global cooperation mechanisms. The meeting also highlighted NDMA’s international exercises, search and rescue operations through modern technology, and the early warning system related to floods.

Natalie Baker described NDMA’s modern model and joint initiatives with regional countries as worthy of imitation for the region. The US delegation reiterated its commitment to provide Pakistan with full support in the form of equipment, technical experts, and humanitarian organisations in the face of natural disasters, including the 2025 floods.

Lt. Gen. Patrick Frank, while appreciating the proactive measures taken by the NDMA and the key role of the NEOC, said that cooperation will be further strengthened through disaster prevention and joint simulation exercises to make the region safer from increasing climate hazards.
