WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has presented a new proposed plan to Hamas aimed at ending the ongoing war in Gaza.
According to reports, the proposed plan focuses on achieving a long-term ceasefire and initiating direct negotiations between Israel and Hamas, centred around a large-scale prisoner exchange.
President Trump’s proposal was delivered to Hamas through his close advisor, Steve Witkoff. The plan calls for the release of all 48 Israeli hostages currently held by Hamas, in exchange for the freedom of thousands of Palestinian prisoners.
In return, Israeli forces would halt military operations and begin withdrawing from the Gaza Strip.
The proposed ceasefire would serve as a framework for direct negotiations between Hamas and Israel, with Trump himself leading the mediation efforts. The ceasefire would remain in place as long as talks continue, to foster a sustainable atmosphere of peace.
While commenting on Trump’s new peace plan, political analysts said that this initiative are a renewed attempt by Trump to re-establish a diplomatic role in the Middle East, especially at a time when the current U.S. administration’s policies are facing criticism in the region.
