SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: (NOOR ALI WAZIR) A grand meeting was held in Wana, South Waziristan, under the leadership of the United Political Peace Alliance (Mutahida Siyasi Aman Pasoon) demanded of the federal government to ensure peace and their share in mineral resources to revive economic activities in South Waziristan.
The gathering drew a large number of political and social leaders from across the region. The main objective of the meeting was to highlight the pressing public issues faced by the local population and to formulate a unified strategy for their resolution.
During the meeting, participants unanimously agreed to present three key demands to the government and relevant state institutions. The first demand was the immediate restoration of peace and security in the region. Speakers expressed serious concern over the rising instability in South Waziristan and emphasised that maintaining law and order is the responsibility of the state.
The second demand was the reopening of the Angoor Adda trade gate, which has remained closed for the past 21 months. The participants said that the prolonged closure has devastated the local economy and disrupted livelihoods. They urged the government to take swift action to reopen the gate and restore trade activities.
The third demand focused on ensuring that the local population benefits directly from the area’s mineral resources. Participants stressed that the natural wealth of the region should be used to promote economic self-reliance and improve living standards for the people of South Waziristan.
The alliance announced that a peaceful protest sit-in would be held next Friday to press the government to act on these demands. The exact location of the sit-in will be disclosed one day before the event. The organisers stated that the protest would be a joint effort and that representatives from all political, social, and religious groups would take part.
During the meeting, participants raised slogans such as “Peace is the government’s responsibility” and vowed not to allow anyone to disturb the region’s peace. They appealed to the government to address their demands within the framework of the Constitution and national laws. The joint agenda was presented by Taj Muhammad Wazir, who stressed unity and peaceful advocacy for the rights of the people.
