WAPDA Hydroelectric Workers Union staged protest near WAPDA house

PESHAWAR: All Pakistan WAPDA Hydroelectric Workers Union staged protest in front of WAPDA House, Peshawar, in support of their demands.

The protest sit-in was led by the union’s chairman, Muhammad Iqbal and other officials. Holding banners and placards, the protesters chanted slogans in favour of their demands. Addressing the participants, Chairman said that due to the pressure of work in the three electricity distribution companies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the number of line staff dying in electrical accidents is unbearable.

According to the law, three shifts have not yet been fixed in offices, complaint offices, grid stations and fields, which have an excess for employees. He clarified that the workers of the three distribution companies will not work more than 8 hours, and meter readers in urban areas will take 1,500, 1,000 and 800 meter readings in mountainous areas per month, while drivers will park their vehicles in case of unavailability of fuel.

The protesters said that the union has informed the relevant officials in writing several times in this regard, but there has been no response. They have threatened that if their demands were heeded, they would launch protest movement.
