ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani asserted that the current government rescued Pakistan’s economy from default by fulfilling all IMF targets, enabling critical fund releases.
Speaking on Hum News’ “Question Hour,” Kayani accused the previous PTI government of deliberately sabotaging the IMF program and claimed India attempted to block the IMF board’s approval. “PTI should apologise to the nation for misrepresentation,” he said.
Highlighting the government’s measures, Kayani noted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed specialized committees to ensure swift decisions. “Declining inflation reflects our good governance,” he added.
On the sugar crisis, the minister explained exports were permitted during surplus production but current shortages necessitated imports. “Production fell short of expectations,” he said.
