What’s the official launch date for Honda’s electric bikes in Pakistan?

ISLAMABAD: Atlas Honda, Pakistan’s largest motorcycle manufacturer, will launch its first electric bikes in Pakistan by June 2025.

The company aims to maintain its dominant position in the local motorcycle market, where it holds 85% of the share.

Despite government incentives, Pakistan’s electric two-wheeler market remains small, with EV bikes making up less than 1% of total sales in 2024. High costs, limited charging infrastructure, and consumer concerns have slowed adoption.

Experts believe Atlas Honda’s strong brand and local manufacturing network can help shift the market. With a production capacity of 1.3 million motorcycles annually and over 95% of components sourced domestically, the company is well-positioned to tailor its electric bikes to local needs.

The electric bikes will feature a 48-watt battery, offering a 65 km range on a full charge. Charging time will be six to seven hours, with a portable charger for home or office use. The bikes will cost slightly more than existing models due to higher-quality components.

Initial production will reach 25,000 units, with annual output expected to be around 8,000 units. This cautious approach shows the company’s optimism for the future of electric mobility in Pakistan.
