Peshawar Man Shot Dead After Being Removed from Local WhatsApp Group

PESHAWAR: A tragic incident unfolded in the Regi area of Peshawar, where a dispute over being removed from a WhatsApp group escalated into a fatal shooting. According to police reports, the altercation occurred a day ago between the victim, Mushtaq, and the accused, Ashfaq. The argument began after Ashfaq was removed from a local WhatsApp group comprising residents and tribesmen. The situation intensified the following day, leading to a violent confrontation.

Meraj Khan, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Regi police station, confirmed the incident, stating that the dispute originated from the group’s removal. He added that the argument between Ashfaq and Mushtaq turned deadly when Ashfaq opened fire on Mushtaq and his half-brother, Humayun, as they were attempting to mediate the conflict.

Humayun, the deceased’s half-brother, provided a detailed account of the events. He explained that after the initial argument, both parties exchanged gunfire. Later, Humayun and Mushtaq decided to visit a local hut to resolve the issue peacefully. However, on their way, Ashfaq ambushed them and fired shots. Mushtaq sought refuge in a nearby petrol pump room but was fatally shot by Ashfaq.

SHO Meraj Khan confirmed that the incident occurred yesterday afternoon and assured that an investigation is underway. He also stated that the suspect, Ashfaq, will be apprehended soon.
