WHO, Pakistan govt launch new vaccination centers

ISLAMABAD: The World Health Organisation (WHO), in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan, has launched an initiative to establish 26 new vaccination centres nationwide, aiming to serve over 750,000 people in underserved communities.

Funded by GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, these centres will offer critical vaccines and basic health services to populations previously deprived of such access.

According to an official statement, 13 prefabricated centres are already operational in Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. The remaining 13 are currently being procured and will be set up in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Strategically placed in areas with low vaccination rates and poor health infrastructure, the centres will be powered by solar energy to ensure continued operation during power outages and natural disasters—also supporting climate resilience.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen Pakistan’s Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) and ensure that healthcare reaches the most vulnerable populations.

WHO Representative in Pakistan, Dr. Dapeng Luo, underscored the initiative’s goal of achieving “health for all” and ensuring that no one is left behind. The project also aims to enhance primary health care delivery and emergency response capabilities.
