PESHAWAR: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter has threatened to boycott hospitals across the province if the government fails to address their demands, including better salaries and working conditions.
During a press conference, YDA President Dr. Hafeez Orakzai highlighted multiple issues, such as poor facilities in major hospitals, flaws in the health card system, and a sharp increase in professional tax on doctors—from 30% to 80%.
He also criticized the lack of doctor recruitment by the Public Service Commission over the past six years, alleging favoritism toward politically connected candidates over merit-based doctors.
Dr. Orakzai demanded higher salaries for house officers, timely promotions, and the inclusion of professionals in hospital board governance.
He also called for hostels in medical colleges and specialization opportunities for young doctors.

Praising doctors’ sacrifices during COVID-19, earthquakes, and floods, he lamented the lack of recognition and demanded that fallen medics be given the Shaheed package.
He warned that if demands are ignored, YDA will shut down hospitals and protest until the health minister resigns.
