The Rickshaw Drivers Association protested against the decision of the Town Muncipal Administration Charsadda for bringing a double increase in Parking tax, demanding immediate withdrawal of the decision.

Protesters gathered at Farooq Azam Chowk, blocking the road for all kinds of traffic and raising slogans of “No, No, No Tax.” The drivers expressed frustration over the doubling of their daily tax from Rs 50 to Rs 100, calling it unjust and oppressive. The first day of Pakistan’s new fiscal year hadn’t even reached its peak when the first public protest broke out — this time in Charsadda district, where Qingqi rickshaw drivers took to the streets against a recent tax hike.

They argued that fuel prices are already on the rise, increasing the tax simultaneously has made it nearly impossible for them to make both ends meet. “We reject this tax increase entirely,” said one protester. “TMA must take this decision back or face the consequences.”  The demonstrators warned that if the government did not withdraw the new tax then they would be force to launch a protest movement outside the DC office.
