ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has restored the Sales Tax Amendment Act in erstwhile FATA and PATA.
A five-member constitutional bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan heard the matter and suspended the decision of the Peshawar High Court.The Peshawar High Court had declared the Sales Tax Amendment Act in erstwhile FATA and PATA null and void, after which the Ghee and Steel Mills Association had filed an appeal against this decision. While hearing the appeals, the Supreme Court issued a stay order on the applications of the Ghee and Steel Mills Association and suspended the decision of the Peshawar High Court. The court, while issuing notices to the parties, said that further hearing of the matter has been postponed indefinitely. Following the Supreme Court’s decision, the Sales Tax Amendment Act has been restored in the former FATA and PATA, which will resume the collection of sales tax in these areas.
