NEW YORK: A high-level Pakistani delegation, led by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has arrived in New York to raise alarm over India’s escalating war rhetoric and aggressive posture.
During their stay in New York until June 2, the delegation is scheduled to hold key meetings with international leaders, including United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, the President of the UN General Assembly, and ambassadors from both permanent and non-permanent member states of the UN Security Council.
The visit aims to brief the global community on the growing regional tensions triggered by India’s provocative actions. The Pakistani team will also engage with representatives of the Non-Aligned Movement and hold a special briefing with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) group in New York.
Following the UN-focused leg of the trip, the delegation will head to Washington on June 3, where they will stay until June 6. In the US capital, the group will meet with American officials and top think tanks to further highlight India’s aggressive posture and promote Pakistan’s peaceful narrative.
Before departing, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and his team held a consultative meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to seek guidance on effectively articulating Pakistan’s position. Bilawal expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s confidence in him, while the premier conveyed his trust in Bilawal’s ability to present Pakistan’s case forcefully on the global stage.
Also present in the preparatory meeting were Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musaddiq Malik, Advisor on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.
