Pakistan and China reaffirm commitment to regional peace and security cooperation

BEIJING: Pakistan’s National Security Advisor, Lieutenant General (Retired) Muhammad Asim Malik, undertook an official visit to China to participate in the annual meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Councils of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The high-level gathering brought together representatives from member states to discuss regional and global security challenges, strengthen cooperation, and enhance mutual understanding among SCO nations. During the conference, Lieutenant General Asim Malik delivered Pakistan’s official statement, in which he emphasized the country’s consistent position on current global and regional developments. He underlined the importance of fostering peace, stability, and constructive engagement between nations, especially within the context of increasing geopolitical tensions.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to a policy of peaceful coexistence, emphasizing that sustainable peace in the region can only be achieved through dialogue, mutual respect, and regional collaboration. While in China, the National Security Advisor held a series of strategic discussions with senior Chinese officials. The talks focused on further deepening bilateral cooperation in the areas of national security, counter-terrorism efforts, and intelligence sharing. Both sides acknowledged the evolving nature of security threats and agreed that close coordination and trust-based collaboration are essential for addressing transnational challenges effectively.

General Malik highlighted the importance of enhancing information exchange and joint security initiatives between Pakistan and China, particularly in light of shared concerns regarding extremism, terrorism, and regional instability. He reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to work closely with China to support efforts aimed at preserving peace and order, not only in their immediate neighbourhood but across the broader SCO region. The Chinese leadership appreciated Pakistan’s proactive role in promoting regional peace and stability and acknowledged the country’s contributions to the SCO’s collective security goals. Chinese officials expressed confidence in Pakistan as a reliable partner and welcomed continued strategic dialogue.

Both nations concluded the meetings with a mutual commitment to maintain regular communication and coordination on security matters. They agreed to strengthen existing mechanisms for cooperation and to explore new avenues for joint initiatives aimed at ensuring long-term peace, regional development, and stability. This visit marks another milestone in the steadily growing strategic relationship between Pakistan and China, reinforcing their shared vision of a secure and prosperous region through mutual trust and cooperation.
