PESHAWAR: Despite rumors of a no-confidence motion against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, no significant progress has been made so far, said former provincial minister Ajmal Wazir.
Speaking to Pakhtun Digital Podcast, Wazir stated that toppling the KP government is not as simple as some believe. While he acknowledged that political dynamics could shift rapidly—even within hours—he emphasized that, at present, the government appears stable.
Wazir noted that Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has been the most vocal in pushing for change, but his statements are inadvertently strengthening government ally Ali Amin Gandapur’s position.Regarding the 27th Constitutional Amendment, Wazir pointed out that the government and opposition have equal strength in the National Assembly. However, the Senate’s stance depends on the upcoming KP Senate elections.
He also suggested that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned protests might face delays, as the KP Chief Minister is currently focused on securing Senate seats, which could impact the amendment process.
On the issue of tribal districts, Wazir warned against further political experiments post-FATA merger. He argued that the merger itself was not a failure but blamed unmet promises for public disappointment.
Wazir concluded that any political party considering KP’s long-term stability would avoid supporting a no-confidence motion.
