PESHAWAR: Under the special directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed, the Peshawar Safe City project is progressing at an accelerated pace, with completion expected within six months. The initiative, aimed at enhancing security through advanced surveillance, has already begun construction at 125 key locations across the city.
Work includes excavation, concrete filling, and pole installation for high-resolution cameras capable of storing footage for 30 days. The project, set to be fully operational by October 2025, is designed to combat extremism, street crimes, and other criminal activities in Peshawar.
The provincial government approved the long-pending Safe City project last month based on IGP Hameed’s recommendations. Additionally, surveys have been completed in terrorism-affected districts DI Khan, Bannu, and Lakki Marwat, where the project will officially launch on August 11, 2025. A total of 86 locations in DI Khan, 83 in Bannu, and 41 in Lakki Marwat will be equipped with surveillance cameras.
In Peshawar, significant progress has been made, with 78% excavation work completed and 67% of poles fixed, particularly in upscale areas like Hayatabad.
IGP Hameed reaffirmed his commitment to establishing a modern, technology-driven policing network across the province to ensure public safety and foster a peaceful environment for economic and social growth. The Safe City project is expected to be a major milestone in restoring Peshawar’s status as a peaceful and secure city.
