ISLAMABAD: Power tariff likely to be slashed by Rs 1.69 per unit across the country as meeting was held for the July fuel price adjustment under the chairmanship of Nepra Chairman Waseem Mukhtar.

After completing the hearing on the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) application, Nepra will review the data and issue a decision in the form of a notification.

According to sources, the price reduction will apply to consumers across the country, including K-Electric. The application of the price reduction will provide relief of up to Rs 23 billion on September bills.

NEPRA officials said that in July, the government had requested to reduce electricity by Rs 1.69 per unit, this reduction will provide relief of more than Rs 23 billion to consumers.

The NEPRA statement said that this reduction will be applicable for only one month. The Ministry of Energy has informed NEPRA through a letter about the Fuel Charges Adjustment implementation instructions from the ECC.

The statement said that the letter said that the FCA determined that discos should also be charged to K-Electric consumers. The authority listened to the views of all the relevant stakeholders with satisfaction. The authority will issue its detailed decision after further examination of the data.

Member NEPRA Rafiq Sheikh expressed concern over the 11 fatal accidents due to electricity in July and said that 6 out of the 11 accidents took place in Iesco. He said that Iesco also has an underground electricity system. Unfortunately, six people lost their lives in the Iesco region.
