Heavy monsoon rains forecast for Punjab till September 9

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert, predicting heavy stormy rains in most districts of Punjab.

PDMA spokesperson told local media that rain is expected from today until September 9 in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat, and Sialkot districts of Punjab. Rainfall is also likely in Narowal, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Sahiwal, Kasur, Jhang, Sargodha, and Mianwali districts.

PDMA report further warns of flash flooding risks in the rivers and streams of Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Rajanpur from September 8 to 9 due to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed has directed district administrations across the province to remain on high alert to tackle the risk of floods.

He cautioned that urban streams and nullahs may overflow in major cities due to the monsoon rains and instructed all relevant officials to remain present in the field for timely response.
