Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will announce good news tomorrow (Thursday), with sources indicating a major reduction in electricity prices.
The government on Wednesday posted on its official X account that “great news for the entire nation” would be unveiled tomorrow, without providing any details about the announcement itself. The post bore the hashtag ‘Small Eid, Big Gift’, referring to Eidul Fitr.
Sources said that the premier would address the nation tomorrow and announce a “big decision”.
“The nation will receive a surprise and significant piece of good news in the address,” they added.
Separately, sources told Geo News that the prime minister will hold a crucial meeting with leading business figures in Islamabad. The meeting will be attended by cabinet members and 336 business tycoons, during which PM Shehbaz will brief them on power sector reforms.
It is pertinent to mention here that the federal government last month formally submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) for reduction of Rs1.71 per unit in electricity prices.
