KP begins trials to select teams for 35th National Games 2025

PESHAWAR: The selection trials for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa teams for the 35th National Games 2025 started here at Qayyum Sports Complex on Saturday.

The 35th National Games 2025 is scheduled from May 1 to 9 in the country’s largest city Karachi.

For the selection of teams, trials are being organised at the Qayyum Sports Complex. On the first day, trials for Squash, badminton, and archery teams were held. Players from different areas, including Peshawar, took part.

Twelve-year-old squash player Mah Noor Ali from Peshawar also joined the trials. She told Pakhtun Digital that she has won 20 gold medals so far—nine international and eleven nationals.

She said she has been practicing for the last two months to prepare for the National Games. She hopes to perform well in the upcoming competition and won the gold medal.

Sara Khan, General Secretary of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Archery Association, said 20 players gave archery trials for men team. She told Pakhtun Digital that they aim to hold fair trials and select players on merit. She said their goal is to build a strong team so the province can earn a top spot in the National Games. Trails for women archery team will be held tomorrow.

Tug-of-war trials will take place on April 6 at Qayyum Sports Complex. Basketball trials are scheduled for April 5 and 6. Boxing trials will be held on April 6 and 7.

Men’s handball trials will take place on April 8 at Hostel No. 9 ground, University of Peshawar. Women’s handball trials will be held on April 9 at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s University, Peshawar.

Zulfiqar Ali Butt, Secretary of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association, said all associations will hold trials on time. He promised transparent selection. He also said training camps will be set up after trials to further improve the players’ skills.
