SC dismisses Punjab govt’s plea for Imran’s physical remand

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has disposed of the appeals filed by the Punjab government for the physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Wednesday.

A two-member bench of Supreme Court, comprising Justice Hashim Kakar and Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, heard the appeals filed by the Punjab government for the physical remand of Imran Khan.

Supreme Court Justice Hashim Kakar has remarked that one and a half years have passed since the arrest of the accused, now the question of physical remand does not arise, the Punjab government can approach the trial court if it wants.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the Punjab government can approach the trial court if it wants, Imran Khan’s lawyers have the right to oppose the application.

The Prosecutor General of Punjab took the position that the accused should undergo photographic, polygraphic, and voice matching tests, to which Justice Hashim Kakar said that the request in the application was not for tests but for physical remand.

Justice Salahuddin Panho remarked that such tests have never been conducted in any murder or adultery case, it is expected that the government will show similar efficiency in common man cases as well.
