PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Food Minister, Zahir Shah Toru, visited the under-construction Central Food Testing Laboratory in Hayatabad on Wednesday to review progress. The lab, part of the Food Safety & Halal Food Authority, will soon become fully operational with advanced equipment to test food quality and halal status.
During the visit, Director General Wasif Saeed informed the minister that the lab is being equipped with cutting-edge machinery like Milk Scan, Meat Testing Labs, PCR, and HPLC systems. These tools will enable testing of snacks, beverages, oils, meat, spices, water, milk, and more. Additional equipment, including spectrometers and autoclaves, will be functional soon.

Minister Toru praised the lab’s progress, stating it will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur shortly. He emphasized that KP is the first province in Pakistan to establish such a high-tech food testing facility. Twelve mobile food labs are already operational across the province, ensuring food safety.
The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to providing safe, quality food to citizens and raising awareness among food producers about standards.
