Alipur AC ousted over failure to deal with flood victims

17 dead in boat capsizing incidents amid flooding in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab government has removed Alipur Assistant Commissioner Faiz Farid from his post due to unsatisfactory performance in addressing the needs of flood-affected residents, local media reported yesterday.

According to an official notification, Chubara Assistant Commissioner Nauman Mahmood has been appointed in his place.

The development follows Dunya News’ coverage of the plight of flood victims and complaints against private boat owners allegedly overcharging and exploiting stranded people.

Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had taken notice of the issue and ordered a crackdown on boat operators exploiting victims. She directed that all private boats in flood-hit Jalalpur Pirwala be placed under government supervision to ensure fair and safe rescue and transport services.
