The Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court to announce verdict in important cases related to the May 9 violent incidents against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders today.
The Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court had reserved the verdict in two important cases related to the Shadman police station arson and the burning of police vehicles near Jinnah House, which will be announced today. The court had completed the jail trial proceedings of both cases yesterday, after which the verdict was reserved. The court said in its remarks that “the verdict will be announced today as it is late at night.”
In the Shadman police station arson and siege case, the police had presented challans in the court against a total of 41 accused, out of which 25 were formally tried. 15 accused have been declared absconders, while one accused has died. 45 witnesses recorded their testimonies in this case.
The named accused include PTI central leaders Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Mian Mahmood Rashid, Omar Sarfaraz Cheema, Ijaz Chaudhry, Alia Hamza and Sanam Javed.
Action was taken against 17 people in this case, out of which seven were declared as proclaimed offenders, while one accused has passed away. 65 witnesses recorded their testimonies. Former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Omar Sarfaraz Cheema and other PTI leaders have also been named as accused in this case.
