China backs Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts: Foreign Minister Wang Yi

BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s consistent support for Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts during a phone call with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday.

During the conversation, Dar briefed Wang on the rising tensions between Pakistan and India following recent terrorist attacks in Kashmir. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to fighting terrorism and stressed the importance of avoiding any actions that could further escalate the situation.

Dar also highlighted Pakistan’s focus on managing the crisis responsibly and maintaining communication with China and the broader international community.

In response, Wang—who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China—expressed China’s close attention to developments in the region. He stated that combating terrorism is a shared responsibility and reiterated China’s steadfast support for Pakistan’s firm stance against terrorism.

Citing the “iron-clad friendship” and “all-weather strategic partnership” between the two nations, Wang said China fully understands Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns and backs its efforts to protect its sovereignty and security interests.

Wang also called for a fair and timely investigation into the attacks, stressing that conflict between Pakistan and India serves neither side’s interests and threatens regional peace and stability. He urged both countries to exercise restraint, engage in dialogue, and work collaboratively to de-escalate tensions and promote regional stability.
