PESHAWAR: The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, assured the Bannu Qaumi Jirga delegation on Monday that the 16-point peace charter of demands, approved by the Apex Committee, would be formally implemented.
The delegation met with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, in which the current law and order situation in the area, security measures, and other public issues were discussed in detail.
The meeting included Provincial Minister Pakhtun Yar Khan, Member National Assembly Maulana Naseem Shah, Member Provincial Assembly Adnan Wazir, and other political, social and religious figures. The Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary Home, Commissioner, Regional Police Officer, Deputy Commissioner and District Police Officer were also present on the occasion.
The delegation apprised the Chief Minister of the demands of the National Jirga held yesterday and pointed out the difficulties faced by the people due to blocked roads in Bannu. Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur agreed in principle to these demands and decided to prepare a comprehensive action plan to resolve them.
The Chief Minister announced that a committee would be formed to resolve issues related to the reinstatement of dismissed police personnel, Fourth Schedule and three MPOs. He expressed his determination that peace would be established in the area with the cooperation of the people.
Ali Amin Gandapur said that out of the 16 points approved by the provincial apex committee, 12 have been implemented, while steps are underway to implement the remaining points. He said that a procedure is being formulated to open the closed roads in Bannu City in a phased manner so that the movement of people is facilitated.
The Chief Minister stressed that public trust is indispensable for eliminating terrorism, and the government is taking steps to restore public trust in the system. He said that no military operation is currently taking place in any part of the province, however, intelligence-based operations against terrorists will continue.
He added that the police are being given a central role against terrorism, and for this purpose, the police, especially the Counter Terrorism Department, are being further strengthened.
The jirga members assured the government that they would fully cooperate with the government to establish lasting peace in the area.
