The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, was conferred with the ‘baton of Field Marshal’ by the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, at the event held at the President’s house in Islamabad.
In a special ceremony held at the Presidential House, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conferred the Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) with the Baton of Field Marshal.
President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari are participating in the ceremony.
Members of the federal cabinet, services chiefs, provincial governors and a large number of members of parliament, foreign diplomats, and civil and military officials were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that he paid tribute to the services of Field Marshal Asim Munir for the beloved homeland. “Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s passion and determination during the tense situation were exemplary. The role of Field Marshal is very important for national sovereignty and security,” PM continues.
He said that the Pakistani army crushed the enemy’s arrogance. Pakistan proponent of peace, but it shouldn’t be mistaken for weakness: President Zardari
Addressing the ceremony, President Asif Ali Zardari said that the purpose of today’s ceremony is to pay tribute to the brave son of the nation, the entire nation is proud of its brave armed forces, the honor of Field Marshal to Syed Asim Munir is a proud moment, I was very happy to be awarded the honor of Field Marshal.
He said that during the battle of truth, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir led from the front, the entire nation was with its brave forces against the enemy, our full response proved our capability to the world, Pakistan is a proponent of peace, but the desire for peace should not be considered weakness.
President Asif Ali Zardari said that they know how to defend the beloved homeland, may Allah Almighty keep the defenders of the beloved homeland in its protection and safety.
The government of Pakistan had approved the elevation of the rank of COAS Asim Munir from general to Field Marshal on Tuesday.
