ISLAMABAD: The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad had approved bail and freed journalist Waheed Murad.
Waheed Murad, who was arrested from his home early Wednesday morning, was charged under a controversial cybercrime law Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
The court granted bail to him against a bond of Rs 50,000.
As per details, Journalist Waheed Murad was produced before Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah by the FIA after completing his two-day physical remand.
During the hearing, the court inquired what material he had obtained in the two days. The FIA said that they were shown various posts which were also put on record.
Lawyer Iman Mazari argued that the posts being referred to were not those of Waheed Murad, but one post was of Akhtar Mengal, which was his statement.
Lawyer Iman Mazari told the court that Waheed Murad had quoted and posted the words of Akhtar Mengal.
The FIA told the court that the content of Akhtar Mengal’s post stated that Baloch genocide was being committed. Later, after arguments, Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah granted bail to journalist Waheed Murad and ordered his release.
It should be noted that a petition was filed in the Islamabad High Court on behalf of Waheed Murad’s mother-in-law Abida Nawaz.
The petition was filed by Advocate Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha, in which the Home Secretary, Defence Secretary, IG and SHO Karachi Company were made parties.
