Government issues SOPs for foreign tourists in Hunza

HUNZA: In the wake security concerns, SOPs have been made for foreign tourists, under which a coordinated plan for hotel security has been formulated by the district administration of Hunza Valley.

The district administration issued a notification on April 25 for security classification, under which a list of less sensitive and more sensitive hotels has been issued. According to the notification, only less sensitive hotels have been allowed to host foreign tourists, while more sensitive hotels have been banned from hosting foreign tourists.

The district administration has declared only 45 hotels out of 387 hotels suitable for the accommodation of foreign tourists. The district administration has directed the designated hotels to implement all SOPs, including installing Hotel software, otherwise they will face closure.

Gilgit-Baltistan provincial government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq told media persons that ‘Security SOPs have been made in Hunza only for foreign tourists. As a precautionary measure, only those hotels have been declared suitable for the accommodation of foreign tourists where security has been provided by the government.’

He said that ‘Chinese tourists often visit these areas, so this decision has been taken keeping in mind their security.’Faizullah said that ‘Every house in Hunza has been turned into a hotel, where accommodating foreigners can become a security risk. All hotels have been instructed to improve security, including CCTV cameras, so that the safety of foreign guests can be ensured.
