PESHAWAR: A high-level jirga (tribal council) was held in Peshawar on Tuesday to discuss the worsening security situation in Bajaur after a series of deadly terrorist attacks. The meeting included government officials, police, military leaders, tribal elders, and religious scholars.
Over the past two months, Bajaur has faced multiple terrorist attacks, resulting in the deaths of many civilians and officials, including Maulana Khan Zeb, Assistant Commissioner Faisal Ismail, and Tehsildar Abdul Wakeel. The jirga honored the martyrs and called for stronger cooperation between the public, government, and security forces to restore peace.
Officials assured that the government is taking the situation seriously and will prioritize peace in the region. They announced plans for intelligence-based operations to target militants while minimizing harm to civilians. A new committee, including tribal leaders and officials, will meet weekly to coordinate security efforts.
The jirga also demanded compensation for victims’ families, action against extortion networks, and greater transparency in security operations. The meeting ended with prayers for peace in Bajaur.
