ISLAMABAD: In his reaction to the Pahalgam false flag operation, Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that it is easy for India to blame Pakistan to deflect attention from its shortcomings and misdeeds. He urged India not to use Pakistan as a scapegoat for its failures.
He emphasised that the state has yet to take a clear stance on the issue and advised against emotional reactions until an official position is established.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, also rejected the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mines and Minerals Bill, as well as the Mines and Minerals Act recently passed by the Balochistan Assembly. He mentioned that an explanation is being sought from the members of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam in the Balochistan Assembly who voted in favour of these bills. If a satisfactory explanation is not provided, their membership will be terminated.
When asked about the possibility of forming a grand opposition, he indicated that the General Council is not yet prepared for a formal alliance with the opposition. However, he affirmed that they will maintain mutual contacts, and if there is a need for cooperation with religious parties or parliamentary opposition on common issues, decisions will be made through the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Shura.
He reiterated that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam had declared the 2018 elections as rigged and that they hold the same view regarding the upcoming 2024 elections. He stressed that governments formed through rigging, whether at the provincial or federal levels, have completely failed to protect the lives and property of the people. Maulana Fazlur Rehman insisted that the nation requires transparent elections as soon as possible and stated that they will continue their political struggle from their platform.
