ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan on Wednesday said that Pakistan is deeply concerned about the loss of human lives in an attack in Pahalgam area of Indian occupied Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives and injured 17 others.
Pakistan expresses its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prays for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The horrific shooting incident that took place in the famous tourist destination of Pahalgam in occupied Kashmir has shaken the entire valley. 26 tourists were killed and 10 injured, including two foreigners, in the sudden firing by armed men in Baisaran Meadows. The shooting incident took place at around 2:30 pm on Tuesday and gunfire continued at the scene for five minutes. Pakistan has reacted strongly and expressed concern over the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, people kept running for their lives in the open field, but there was no place to hide. An Indian woman’s picture has gone viral on social media, in which she is crying over her husband’s body. An Indian Navy officer and an Intelligence Bureau official are among the dead.
The Indian army and police arrived late after the incident, while the attackers managed to escape.
After the attack, the Indian media and government immediately started hurling accusations at Pakistan. Some channels claimed that the attack was given a religious color and non-Hindu tourists were targeted, while a claim has also emerged that the Kashmir Resistance Front has taken responsibility for the attack.
