Iran slams US “provocative moves,” says sanctions hurt nuclear diplomacy

U.S. and Iran Hold First Direct Talks in Oman Amid Tensions

Iran has accused the United States of failing to demonstrate seriousness in resolving diplomatic tensions, citing recent “provocative” actions like sanctions and threats over Tehran’s alleged support for Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The criticism follows new U.S. sanctions targeting Iranian oil and petrochemical firms, announced days after the U.S. Defense Secretary warned of “serious consequences” for Iran’s regional activities.

Iranian officials argue these measures undermine efforts to revive stalled nuclear talks, stressing that progress depends on Washington adjusting its approach. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari linked a recent terrorism incident in Pahalgam, Kashmir, to broader regional instability, claiming it aimed to destabilize Pakistan’s Sindh province.
