“Focus on KP security, avoid attacking institutions”: Khawaja Asif to Gandapur

Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that Pakistan should implement border arrangements with Afghanistan similar to those with Iran to effectively control illegal cross-border activities.

Speaking to the media, Asif alleged that many individuals entering from Afghanistan engage in illegal businesses. He claimed Afghan citizens have illegally dominated sectors like transport and housing across Pakistan, with an estimated 100,000 to 150,000 still residing in the country, many in unauthorized settlements.

Asif strongly rejected blaming state institutions for terrorist incidents. He specifically criticized PTI leadership and KP  CM Ali Amin Gandapur. He termed Gandapur’s criticism of federal institutions as “condemnable” and warned the federation would respond.

The Defence Minister further claimed that even within PTI circles, Gandapur is accused of being a ‘double-digit’ (implying duplicity), suggesting such statements shouldn’t be taken seriously.

Asif clarified that Pakistan maintains diplomatic relations with Afghanistan, with its embassy operational in Kabul. However, he stressed the urgent need to strengthen border management to improve security and the state’s au

thority.
